The Difference Between Management Training and Sales Training

“Through your presentations, you have made a lifetime impact and ‘awakened’ the true leader within us.”
- Manager, American Fidelity Group

When you look at the program fundamentals of management training or sales training, you will find very little difference. Both training programs cover issues like body language, personality styles, communication skills, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.  Both training programs are designed to teach people how to get their ideas across so people are willing to listen and accept them. Even the payoffs from the training programs are almost the same; the managers get better performance from employees to make bonus and the sales person makes more sales to make commission.

This leads to the next big question: would management training programs make better salespeople and would sales training programs make better managers?

What does your organization want from a management training program?

If your company is like most, you want a management training program to give your managers the skills they need to get better results for your company and do it fast.
If your company are like a few visionary companies, you want the same results from your management training program plus you want your managers to leave the training program with even more. You want your managers to leave the management training program thinking and acting like leaders.

“Your remarks were direct and totally addressed the requirements we desired to fulfill. It is not an easy task to make an indelible impression on the leadership of any organization but through your enthusiasm, humor, and thought provoking message, you certainly accomplished that.”
-Executive Director,  Integrated Logistics Support Center. U.S. Army

As Mike Hourigan, author of the hugely popular leadership book: Riding the Waves Without Getting Wet: A Journey to Leadership, points out - everyone will have the opportunity to be a leader or “get wet” sometime in their life. As companies streamline, everyone is given the opportunity to become a leader in some capacity. This opportunity may be by personal choice or simply be thrust upon them by circumstances. Therefore, all of our management training programs include a leadership thread woven through them.
