Soft Skills Training Program: Getting negative people to produce positive results

Soft Skills Training Program Speaker Mike Hourigan

Change is hard, change is scary, people never change. It’s no secret that changing people is one tall order – maybe that’s why change management skills training is always one of the hottest topics in my soft skills training program.

The truth is that you can’t change people. A negative person can’t be made into a positive person overnight. You can, however, change a person’s behavior, which in turn will change your overall outcomes and results.

By offering your employees an effective soft skills training program, you will see…

  • Negative people produce positive results
  • Busy people work more efficiently
  • Stressed out people calmly navigate conflict

Notice that I didn’t say you’ll see negative people become more positive, or stressed people suddenly find inner peace. You can’t make a negative person more positive, just as you can’t make a stressed person un-stressed.

Instead, a soft skills training program can teach your employees the habits and behaviors that will create the end result you’re looking for – regardless of their emotional state while performing the behavior.

Behaviors are based on action, and it is action that produces positive results. Once the focus is taken off changing people’s beliefs and personalities, the focus can shift to behaviors and the outcomes of those behaviors.

By teaching action-oriented behaviors that can easily become habits, you can affect positive change without having to try and change people (which we all know by now is pretty much impossible!).

From there, you can create effective systems to reach your goals – all without trying to make negative people into something they’re not.
